Patapsco State Park, MD

Patapsco State Park trail along the Patapsco River is another of those fortuitous results of the Agnes Hurricaine in 1972. Several bridges and parts of River Road were washed away in the flood. The resultant road closings were made permanent and the park became a quiescent place for hiking and biking. In 2003, there is a $1.5 million project to rehabilitate the upper parts of old River Road back to the one remaining bridge outage that leaves the lower parts of River Road isolated in the park. Eventual plans include constructing a foot bridge agross the Patapsco River to rejoin the park section of River Road to the remainder of River road that runs nearly flat into the old part of Ellicott City. But for now hikers and bikers will have to suffice with entering and leaving the park trails at the southeastern park entrance.
